What's Blooming

June 2, 2022

Southern Blue Flag Iris (Iris virginica) is now blooming! Usually found near wetlands or water, this beautiful plant forms a dense clump of sword-shaped bright green leaves with a violet to blue flower on the end of their 2- to 4-foot-tall flowering stems. Southern Blue Flag Iris blooms from late spring to early summer. Hummingbirds and pollinating insects are common visitors to the blooms. Southern Blue Flag Iris makes a beautiful addition to a rain garden or natural shoreline planting.
