The Views of a Clear Lake Winter
January 24, 2025
Through the cold temperatures and quiet air, our natural environment stays alive and vibrant. This winter, these sights remind us of the unique beauty we work to preserve here at Clear Lake. Whether far or near, we can admire the sights together.
In the early days of winter, the lake begins to freeze in stages. On the north end of the lake, bundles of snow cling onto the emergent vegetation. Photo shared by Kathy Schenkel.
In the quiet sky, the birds practice their love songs as they prepare for the coming spring. On the left, a cedar waxwing shows its bright yellow underbelly while resting on ice covered berries. Photo shared by Judy Johnston. Our Indiana birds utilize the winter to claim feeding territory and breeding ground. In the cold, they eat high energy foods and grow extra feathers to keep warm through the season.
In the fresh snow, tracks appear from the wildlife wandering around the landscape on the right. What kind of tracks have you been seeing in the Clear Lake Township?
We will continue to share highlights of our Clear Lake winter in the coming weeks. If you would like to share your favorite snowy photos, email info@clearlakeconservancy.org or contact our office.
